Books for Research

Hello,
I am presenting and writing a proposal to add G.I.E. to the anti-discrimination laws in Tampa.
I need to find texts that pertain to trans-rights, trans-issues, genderqueer, etc.
I have googled many things, but I do not know who is THE scholar(s) in these issues or who is most renowned. I have web sources, but lack a more academic basis. I am basically looking for a 101 book on anything trans/queer. I need to be able to field basic questions on this topic almost expertly. (So- the less dense the better- considering I am in a time crunch). I am trying to avoid looking like an idiot when I present this information in a week to the Human Rights Board in Tampa.
The most difficult questions, according to my attorney, will involve bathroom use while transitioning. Personal stories will be most valuable.
Also,
If you know of any books/experience on personal stories pertaining to violations of rights (because of being queer/trans) such as: housing discrimination, employment, bathroom use, crime, etc. THAT would me very valuable.
Thank you for your input!
