Photo of the Black Hermaphrodite

This is a request. I am doing some research and saw this photo, I have a wild theory and this may prove very helpful. The date and location of photo "may" be important, so I would like to know if that information is availabale. I'm not asking for a copy of the photo, I would like to know who shot the photo, when and where it was taken. Are there more photos like this, not necessarily of black hermaphrodites. Please reply.

Thank you in advance

Hello,
I am presenting and writing a proposal to add G.I.E. to the anti-discrimination laws in Tampa.
I need to find texts that pertain to trans-rights, trans-issues, genderqueer, etc.
I have googled many things, but I do not know who is THE scholar(s) in these issues or who is most renowned. I have web sources, but lack a more academic basis. I am basically looking for a 101 book on anything trans/queer. I need to be able to field basic questions on this topic almost expertly. (So- the less dense the better- considering I am in a time crunch). I am trying to avoid looking like an idiot when I present this information in a week to the Human Rights Board in Tampa.
The most difficult questions, according to my attorney, will involve bathroom use while transitioning. Personal stories will be most valuable.
Also,
If you know of any books/experience on personal stories pertaining to violations of rights (because of being queer/trans) such as: housing discrimination, employment, bathroom use, crime, etc. THAT would me very valuable.
Thank you for your input!

TWO SPIRITS. Wisdom and ignorance and transgender witchcraft.

Some say people are sometimes born into the wrong body for their spiritual Gender. Does this mean they have lived before and switched gender through biological accident of re-incarnation. The Native Americans had a tribally accepted term for this. Two spirit, or Berdache´. The two spirit member of the tribe was known as a person with two spirits inside of them. One male. One female. If Native American culture had not been overshadowed by the imperialist U.S.A. then there would be widely accepted wisdom about the transexual. After all, it is difficult , when you feel your body changing, and your spirit shifting, to know how to express your sudden explosion of intersexed feelings. Many people remain shamefaced and in denial, undercover from a society they know does not accept them. This is tragic. It could, like everything have once been different, if not for the great mistakes of patriachal brutality. Such as the ten or so centuries where they burned nine million European women to death at the stake, in the name of christianity. Sometimes for doing little more than owning ointment. If youve ever rubbed body lotion on your lover, then you know, how would you feel if madmen burst through the door and promised you a painful death in the name of the father and son. Imagine how painful that is. When you singe yourself on a fire, the smarting pain makes you withdraw with a sharp reaction. But they couldnt withdraw. They were bound there, in ropes. Nine million of them. They don´t tell you that in church.
Condemnation of ignorant cultures is, on the flipside, accepted celebration of so called heathen or savage cultures. We live in a shitty world. What do you think`?

I do not have a disorder

I was reading about Cheryl Chase. (http://tinyurl.com/2avpma) . At the bottom of the entry, I noticed this "She also lobbies for the abolition of the word Hermaphrodite in favor of Disorders of Sex Development."

My first reaction is "Fuck that!"

Gender variants are common in nature. It's not a disorder. Last thing I need is yet another pathologizing of intersexed folks.

Don't like hemaphrodite? Well, I personally find "Disorders of Sex Development", MORE judgemental.

What's wrong with "Variant or Atypical Sex Development"? I think it's a lot more neutral & does not patholigize gender variant folks.

What do you think?

Legal Language of anti discrimination laws

I am currently trying to change the laws/city code of the HRO (human rights ordinance) to include Gender Identity Expression in Tampa, Fl. I have recently attended the Southern Comfort Conference and have seen drafted versions of similar ordinances from other cities. My question is, as members of a community where the laws have already been inclusive of GIE, has the legal language been effective in protecting Trans identifying persons? If you identify as Gender Queer or Trans, do you feel the following definition used in the legal text accurately represents you?

GIE- means a gender-related identity, appearance, expression or behavior of an individual, regardless of the individual's assigned sex at birth.

Is this language too vague? What are your thoughts?

Thank you,

Someone in a smaller Androgyne tribe had expressed some difficulty finding t-shirts with the word androgyne or intersex on them and not having seen or heard of it before I decided to go ahead and make some. I know some folks don't care for cafe press and prefer to handle the screen printing, etc. themselves -- but this is honestly the easiest way for me to get a variety of things out, both t-shirts and buttons, etc... throw out any ideas you might have for improving these -- one thing I'm considering is versions of these with a tao (yin/yang) in the middle of the O.

Queer & Intersexed - Where are they welcome? Where should they be welcome? Where would they be imposing?

The below message was posted in a yahoo group & got a bit of discussion..

I recently saw a flyer for an event, a fundraiser & was curious about
it. Based on the flyer, I was not certain who is or is not welcome.

Which got me to thinking further on this issue, as it pertains to me
(and people like me). You see, I am Intersexed. Approximately 1% of
the population is intersexed (source: ISNA website). So we are in
fact out there in far more numbers than many folks realise.

I know that the society I live in is a Gendered society. I had to
select a gender to have a Yahoo email address. But they only offered
male or female. I am neither.

I am not a man, I am not a woman, I am not Trans. I am Intersexed.
I am genetically intersexed. Furthermore, I as identify as an
intersexed person. I see my orientation as Queer. Indeed, I don't
actually see it as possible for me to be homosexual, hetrosexual or
bisexual.

There are Men's Events. Women's events. Trans events. I am none of
these things. I don't want to be a man. I don't want to be a woman.
I don't want to Transition. I am happy as I am. Both male and female.

I respect that different spaces & different parties have different
rules. And I do not want to make anyone else uncomfortable.

So.. where do I fit? Where do I belong. Where would I be imposing?

I thank you all in advance for your thoughts or input.
help and advice...?

hello everyone... i have recently joined the group and have project i need some help and advice with... please take the time to read this with an open mind!

i am a photography student focusing at the the moment on portraiture. i am very interested in ideas about gender and how in society it is percieved that gender is such a crucial part of an individuals identity. when reading a portrait and trying to get to grips with the identity of the subject, the subjects gender is often seen as a large "clue" and an essential aspect in understanding who they are.
i want to challenge this by producing a series of portraits where the subjects gender is unclear, therefore forcing the viewer to deal with the subject on a different level of their identity.

however, i am aware this is a senstive subject that i feel very uneducated about. i do want to know whether this is a proposition that may be offensive to physically androgynous people... i don't want to offend anyone or deal with this in an unsensitive way so i am testing the water to begin with!
any feedback would be greatly appriciated...

kind of open ended i guess, but i'm looking for information in regards to the health and well-being, primary relating to STDs, in the trans population...i'm pushing to include them in my men's STD clinic that i just became the coordinator of. i don't think many folks would know what to do if a trans man walked in for screening

specifically, i suppose i'm looking for info regarding trans men and the differences in the sexual health than females that have had no surgical, hormonal or other alterations to their bodies

Is gender nonspecific the same as androgeny?

it sure is awful quiet around here...

I hate to be defined by sex, but how do you deal with others misunderstanding of gender with little definition?

I was a very androgenous teen, and when I changed schools in 9th grade I caused some disturbance by letting some think I was a genetic girl. A few of the girls were quite upset. At least I didn't get beaten up at that school, I just couldn't get a date. :-P
Teens are of course the MOST conservative people, having no life experience to speak of, but it made me wonder about why people have so much need to define a person's gender.

Many people could imagine being the opposite sex, but few can imagine asexuality (and some fantasize).

What's your positition?

(now I just want to be hermaphrodite :D)
